Scientists discover novel kiri-origami structures to enable ‘high-performance stretchable electronics’

September 2, 2025 by Mai Tao

Researchers develop hybrid kiri-origami structures that enable the fabrication of high-performance stretchable electronics using non-stretchable materials

Stretchable electronics have broad applications, including wearable sensors and curved displays. However, the electronic performance of stretchable materials is poor in comparison to non-stretchable rigid electronic materials.

In a new study, researchers have developed a new technique, using kiri-origami structures, that combines the benefits of both origami and kirigami to achieve stretchable devices with high-performance non-stretchable materials.

This innovative technique can lead to the development of advanced stretchable electronic devices. Stretchable electronics are used in smartphones, smartwatches, curved displays, and wearable sensors. Fugro secures two contracts to support Brazil’s offshore energy expansion

September 2, 2025 by Mai Tao

Fugro has signed two three-year contracts with offshore energy services company Constellation to support responsible deepwater exploration activities in two of Brazil’s most strategically important regions: the mature Campos Basin and the emerging Equatorial Margin.

The contracts come as Brazil works to strengthen its long-term energy security by developing its domestic oil and gas resources as a strategic bridge to low-carbon developments.

Fugro’s work will involve deploying advanced remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) aboard Constellation-managed vessels to carry out subsea equipment inspections, interventions and a range of observation and survey activities. Selecting Industrial SCARA Robots: Criteria and Recommendations

August 30, 2025 by Mai Tao

In today’s competitive manufacturing landscape, SCARA robots have emerged as the backbone of modern production automation.

These versatile machines are transforming everything from electronics assembly to food packaging, but here’s the thing – choosing the wrong robot can cost you more than just money.

I’ve seen companies struggle with underperforming systems simply because they didn’t understand what they were buying.

The stakes are high. A poorly selected robot can bottleneck your entire production line, while the right choice can boost efficiency by 40% or more.

That’s why I’m sharing this practical guide – to help you navigate the technical maze and make a decision that actually works for your specific needs. [Read more…] about Selecting Industrial SCARA Robots: Criteria and Recommendations

Robot ethics: Bias, accountability, and the impact of robots becoming more intelligent and more involved in human society

August 29, 2025 by Mai Tao

Artificial intelligence is now embedded in robots that are not only assembling cars or moving pallets, but also serving food, delivering parcels, assisting the elderly, and even teaching children.

As these systems grow more autonomous, the ethical stakes become unavoidable: what happens when a robot makes a decision that has moral, social, or legal consequences?

Robots powered by advanced AI are no longer passive tools. They perceive, interpret, and act in ways that increasingly resemble human decision-making. That raises pressing concerns about bias, accountability, and the broader societal impact of machines that operate with growing independence.
