DHL Supply Chain is installing 1,000 warehouse robots from Locus Robotics. The world’s largest logistics company will integrate the Locus robots at 10 of its US facilities in 2020.
DHL and Locus Robotics have an ongoing working relationship, but the new initiative significantly expands this partnership.

North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $2.49 billion in billings worldwide in December 2019.
This is according to the December Equipment Market Data Subscription Billings Report published today by SEMI.

Alstom is to supply driverless trains and digital signalling system for Sydney Metro extension to City and Southwest.
The Northwest Rapid Transit Consortium (NRT) reached the contractual close for the extension to the existing NRT Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract on Sydney Metro.
The contract, which was awarded in 2014, has been extended to deliver a seamless customer experience on the new metro, with NRT to operate and maintain the full metro line from Rouse Hill to Bankstown – in total 66 kilometres of rail and 31 metro stations by 2024. Visteon, a supplier of digital automotive dashboard electronics, has opened a newly constructed engineering center in Querétaro, Mexico.
Visteon says its Querétaro Technical Center (VTCQ) is home to highly skilled software, hardware and mechanical engineers responsible for developing advanced cockpit electronics products for North America-based vehicle manufacturers.

Fanuc America is planning to open a new 461,000 square-foot North Campus robotics and automation facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
The world’s largest industrial robot supplier will hold a grand opening celebration for the new centre later today.

Logistics giant DHL has installed a number of floor-cleaning robots at its warehouses in North America.
The machines are made and supplied by a company called Avidbots, which says it is working with DHL Supply Chain to integrate its “Neo” floor-scrubbing robots in select warehouses it manages in North America.

ThyssenKrupp’s material handling division is to invest more than €70 million in its European warehousing and logistics network.
The company – which claims to be “the western world’s biggest materials distributor” – says automation and digitalization will “significantly boost productivity”.
ThyssenKrupp Materials Services, the distribution and service provider of the ThyssenKrupp Group, says the €70 million investment in the modernization and expansion will include a state-of-the-art logistics center and new warehouses in Germany, Poland and Hungary. Total Lubrifiants has strengthened its presence in the industrial lubricants market with the acquisition of a number of business units from Houghton International.
Total has acquired the aluminum hot rolling oil, steel cold rolling oil and tinplate rolling oil activities in the North American and European Economic Area markets from Houghton.

North American distributors of Universal Robots are now opening Authorized Training Centers (ATCs), offering classes spanning basic to advanced programming of UR cobots. The first four ATCs have been launched, with another nine to follow by end of 2019.
Universal Robots says it is committed to making collaborative robots (cobots) in the workplace accessible to all. The company is now building on the popular online modules offered through the UR Academy by enabling its sales channel to open ATCs.
Through hands-on classes hosted by UR trained teachers, the ATCs will broaden users’ understanding of the UR cobots’ range of use cases, while providing opportunities for hands-on practice in real-life applications.
