NXP and Volkswagen explore ultra-wideband technologies

October 4, 2019 by David Edwards

NXP Semiconductors and Volkswagen have shared early glimpses into Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology and its future applications.

In a Volkswagen concept car, the companies showed the capabilities of Ultra-Wideband for advancing security, safety and convenience in vehicles.

Lars Reger, CTO of NXP Semiconductors, and Maik Rohde, head of body electronics and car access systems, Volkswagen, discussed the pioneering collaboration as part of a broader, cross-industry push to leverage the unique capabilities of UWB: accurate localization and fine ranging at maximum security levels. Mitsubishi launches new range of industrial computers

October 3, 2019 by Mai Tao

Mitsubishi Electric Automation has released a new range of its MELIPC Series industrial-use computers for data computing, edge computing, remote monitoring, and the integration of hardware and software technologies.

The MELIPC Series is targeted towards original equipment manufacturers and end users running general manufacturing applications, and especially those who require a computing and data monitoring solution that takes up a limited amount of space with a small footprint.

Most importantly, MELIPC is designed to enable internet of things on factory floors that have not been introduced to it yet, or improve it where it is already enabled. [Read more…] about Mitsubishi launches new range of industrial computers

Virginia Tech researchers aim to give robots bio-inspired gaits

October 2, 2019 by David Edwards

Two years ago, Kaveh Hamed saw his son Nikaan take his first steps on his own. He watched Nikaan’s one-year-old body teeter on wobbly legs as the baby walked forward.

And he saw Nikaan’s progress: he went from crawling on his belly to standing with a sway, to the first walks, to taking off across the floor on two sure feet.

These memories make Hamed think about math, as he does when he watches his dog Telli run. When he sees her bound toward him and switch to a trot, he starts to wonder again about the ways he might impart her agility to a robot. Traditional telco services hamstring WAN agility. Is cloud-based SD-WAN the solution?

September 23, 2019 by Liv

In a recent survey, industry insiders predicted over 80 percent of workloads will run in a public, private, or hybrid cloud by 2020.

This shift towards cloud computing is one of the key drivers of SD-WAN overtaking traditional telco services like MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) as the go-to WAN connectivity solution for enterprises.

However, enterprises also care about reliability and managed services, areas where SD-WAN solutions that only offer overlay functionality come up short. [Read more…] about Traditional telco services hamstring WAN agility. Is cloud-based SD-WAN the solution?
