Infineon unveils ‘world’s thinnest’ silicon power wafer

November 1, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Infineon Technologies has unveiled what it describes as “the next milestone’ in semiconductor manufacturing technology.

Infineon says it has reached a “breakthrough” in handling and processing “the thinnest silicon power wafers ever manufactured”, with a thickness of only 20 micrometers and a diameter of 300 millimeters, in a high-scale semiconductor fab.

The ultra-thin silicon wafers are only a quarter as thick as a human hair and half as thick as current state-of-the-art wafers of 40-60 micrometers.

Roborock launches ‘all-in-one’ robot that sweeps and mops

September 13, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Roborock, a provider of intelligent home robotics, has launched the intelligent sweeping and mopping all-in-one robot Roborock Qrevo Slim, equipped with an innovative 3D camera module for navigation and obstacle avoidance using the REAL3 Time-of-Flight (ToF) imager by Infineon Technologies.

Time of flight is the measurement of the time taken by an object, particle or wave to travel a distance through a medium.

The technology allows to reduce size and increase reliability. Compared to the body height of traditional sweeping and mopping robots of around 100 mm, the overall height of the Roborock Qrevo Slim is only 82 mm, allowing it to pass through lower and narrower spaces while providing high reliability.

Infineon teams up with DH-Robotics to design next-generation end-effectors

October 30, 2023 by David Edwards

Robotic arms bring significant improvements in efficiency and safety to industrial production lines.

However, the reliance on traditional pneumatic grippers hinders the realization of a more sustainable and intelligent manufacturing future, requiring innovative solutions.

To address this challenge and pave the way for a smarter and greener manufacturing future, DH-Robotics, in collaboration with Infineon Technologies, introduces a groundbreaking series of next-generation electric grippers, also known as end-effectors.

Electric grippers offer precise control, adaptability, safety, and energy efficiency, making them indispensable in industries that require handling delicate components with accuracy. [Read more…] about Infineon teams up with DH-Robotics to design next-generation end-effectors

TTTech Auto and Infineon design new chip architecture for highly automated driving

November 10, 2021 by Mark Allinson

TTTech Auto and Infineon Technologies have developed key components for a fail-operational electronic architecture for highly automated driving of SAE Level 3 and 4.

This enables the safe and reliable processing of, for example, radar or LiDAR camera sensor data and is targeting car and technology manufacturers. The fail-operational architectural concept and its key components ensure the safe operation of highway pilot functions, valet parking and autonomous truck driving in case individual functions fail.

The joint research contributed to the successful completion of the European PRYSTINE (Programmable Systems for Intelligence in Automobiles) project. With a budget of about €50 million, PRYSTINE aimed to realize safe automated driving by fail-operational urban surround perception. Infineon and Reality AI teach cars how to ‘hear’

June 1, 2021 by Sam Francis

Today’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are based on cameras, radar or lidar. As a result, their target objects need to be within the line of sight to be recognized by the system.

This, however, turns into a weakness when it comes to emergency vehicles – they can be heard much earlier than they can be seen and thus are invisible to ADAS for a longer time.

To address this challenge, Infineon Technologies together with Reality AI created an advanced sensing solution giving vehicles the sense of hearing. [Read more…] about Infineon and Reality AI teach cars how to ‘hear’
