Panasonic’s Air Inventions wins technology design award 2018 at Milano Salone

Panasonic‘s “Air Inventions” installation, showcasing a range of Panasonic’s technologies in air conditioning, audiovisual, and lighting, at Milano Salone, won the Best Technology Award at the Milano Design Award 2018.

The Milano Design Award is an official competition of the Milano Salone produced by the Fuori Salone and hosted by other organizers.

In 2018, they added five awards in addition to the grand prize. The “Best Technology Award” that Panasonic won this year is given to extraordinary solutions and proposals that help address and resolve pressing social issues.

Chancellor Merkel hand in hand with the robot of tomorrow

German Chancellor Angela Merkel explored the possibilities of the Schunk SVH 5-finger grippers at the Hannover Messe.

She visited the IBG Automation booth, where the head of the German government, together with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife Angélica Rivera, got up close and personal with the robotic hands of Schunk.

“The Hannover Messe has succeeded in impressively demonstrating that the digitization of industrial production and the trend toward Industry 4.0 will be pivotal global topics in the years ahead,” emphasized Henrik A. Schunk, Managing Partner, CEO, Schunk GmbH & Co. at the conclusion of the trade show.

SoftBank appoints new partner to resell Pepper humanoid robots

SoftBank Robotics Europe has appointed Jacky’s Business Solutions as its first reseller in the UAE for its Pepper robot.

Pepper is the first humanoid robot created to interact with humans. It is equipped with features and a high-level interface for proactively communicating with those around it, using the latest advances in voice and face recognition.

Festo builds ‘world’s first’ superconductive motor

Festo has built a compact, superconductive claw pole motor with solid-body cooling, called SupraMotor, which it claims is a world first.

It has a highly compact design, a high holding torque and a durable electrical direct cooling system. For a number of years, the company has also been investigating superconductive drive units in addition to automation concepts with superconductor technology.

Along with the movement concepts with SupraMotion that are being developed for industrial application, Festo is also investigating technologies for superconductive direct drive units.

Autonomous Solutions wins Edison Award Gold Winner for Tractor Concept

Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) was voted a Gold winner in the 2018 Edison Awards in April for its work in the development of the Autonomous Tractor Concept with CNH Industrial and its brands Case IH and New Holland Agriculture.

The Edison Awards, celebrating 31 years of honouring the best in innovation and excellence in the development of new products and services, made the announcement at the April event at The Capitale in New York City.

ASI is the autonomous technology provider for CNH Industrial, parent company of Case IH and New Holland Agriculture and jointly announced the Autonomous Tractor Concept with those companies in late 2016.

Infineon receives quality award from Toyota’s Hirose Plant

Infineon Technologies AG has received an award from Toyota for continuously outstanding product quality.

The auto maker’s Hirose plant presented its Honour Quality Award to the Munich-based chip maker for its CAN transceivers – devices that enable various electronic control units (ECU) in the car to exchange data.

Achieving zero defects in automotive electronics is becoming increasingly important in light of many new functionalities such as automated driving.

Formlabs integrates with Autodesk’s generative design software, Netfabb

Formlabs, the designer and manufacturer of 3D printing systems, is to streamline its user integration with Autodesk’s Netfabb Software.

Users in Netfabb will be able to connect directly to PreForm, Formlabs’ print preparation software, create and modify their own support strategy to optimize parts for the Form 2 and easily hollow and add lattice structures and perforation holes to their models to save print time and materials use.

Users of Netfabb within PreForm will be able to use Netfabb mesh repair, and, for the Fuse 1 SLS 3D printer, 2D and 3D packing algorithms will optimally place parts within the build volume.

3D Systems claims its printers offer ‘world’s fastest time-to-part’ process

3D Systems‘ Figure 4™ Production and Figure 4 Standalone is now the fastest, most accurate 3D printing technology available, says the company.

Recently released data on Figure 4 Production highlights part print speeds up to 65mm/hr, with prototyping speeds of up to 100 mm/hr.

The Figure 4 platform delivers part accuracy and repeatability, with Six Sigma repeatability (Cpk > 2) across all materials.
