Zebra Technologies to acquire Fetch Robotics

Zebra Technologies, a provider of software and hardware systems for supply chains, is to acquire Fetch Robotics, a developer of warehouse robots and related technologies.

Fetch’s Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are used for optimized picking in fulfillment centers and distribution centers, just-in-time material delivery in manufacturing facilities and automating manual material movement in any facility.

Bridgestone invests in autonomous truck developer Kodiak Robotics

Bridgestone Americas has made a minority investment in Kodiak Robotics, a US-based self-driving trucking company.

The partnership will allow Bridgestone to integrate its smart-sensing tire technologies and fleet solutions into Kodiak’s level 4 autonomous trucks.

Jacobs, Peachtree Corners, and Qualcomm partner to develop cellular vehicle-to-everything technology in Georgia Smart City

Jacobs, Peachtree Corners and Qualcomm Technologies have agreed a partnership to implement end-to-end smart solutions in one of the nation’s first smart city environments powered by real-world connected vehicle technology and infrastructure.

As a part of the working relationship, Qualcomm Technologies serves as ecosystem enabler by providing technology solutions, while Jacobs manages the installation commission project delivery.

Nissan uses robotic and 3D printing technologies to expand heritage parts range

Nissan says it will utilize its new technologies to bring to the Japan market additional parts in its NISMO Heritage Parts program, a series of genuine repair and replacement parts for discontinued vehicles.

The new technologies include dual-sided dieless forming for body panels and 3D printing for resin parts.

Swisslog opens new location in Dortmund

After 30 years in Dortmund’s Technology Park, Swiss intralogistics specialist Swisslog is now moving into a new building in the Dorstfeld district of the city.

The company says the move is a sign of expansion and future orientation as well as a commitment to the Ruhr metropolis and Germany as a business location.

NASA awards Geisel Software and Arizona State University swarm robotics contract

Geisel Software, a Massachusetts-based custom software development firm, and Arizona State University are pleased to announce they have been awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Phase I will focus on identifying and developing intent estimation and intent-expressive motion planning technologies that enable cooperative operation of low-cardinality swarms of space vehicles (for example, planetary rovers and flyers) in lunar and planetary exploration missions.

Apple to invest over €1 billion in Germany and plans European Silicon Design Center in Munich

Apple is adding a new facility in Munich to develop 5G and future wireless technologies

Apple says it will make Munich its European Silicon Design Center, adding hundreds of new employees and a new “state-of-the-art facility” to develop connectivity and wireless technologies.

Munich is already Apple’s largest engineering hub in Europe, with close to 1,500 engineers from 40 countries working in a variety of areas including power management design, application processors, and wireless technologies.
