Fully automatic picking of unknown products from bulk material

November 23, 2021 by David Edwards

The goal: fully automated small parts picking.

In intralogistics, there has been a lot of hype about robots for some years now, whether in trade journals or at fairs.

Most of them are classic six-axis articulated robots that are looking for their way out of a production environment and into logistics.

The main driver here is the labour shortage, the big challenge not a technical component like the robot or the gripper, but the design of an overall economic process. [Read more…] about Fully automatic picking of unknown products from bulk material

IDS unveils the smallest housed camera with C-mount over 10GigE to AI

September 24, 2021 by David Edwards

From precise monitoring to picking and automation, there are countless applications that benefit from reliable image information. However, what can be done when there is only a tight budget for the realisation of such an application?

With the introduction of uEye XCP, uEye XLE and Ensenso S, camera specialist IDS proves that industrial-grade image processing technology does not have to be expensive.

For users who need a camera for particularly fast data transfer and also require high-resolution sensors, there will be the uEye Warp10 in future. The company also has big plans for IDS NXT. [Read more…] about IDS unveils the smallest housed camera with C-mount over 10GigE to AI

IDS expands Ensenso 3D camera portfolio in the lower price segment

August 30, 2021 by David Edwards

New entry-level 3D camera: The ultra-compact Ensenso S10 is universally applicable and cost-effective

Industrial camera manufacturer IDS Imaging Development Systems has introduced the Ensenso S, saying the new device shows that the use of industrial-grade 3D technology does not have to be expensive.

The 3D camera is particularly suitable for 3D applications that require budget-friendly, easy-to-integrate and industrial-grade camera technology.

The new Ensenso S10 has an ultra-compact, IP65/67-protected housing and generates 3D data using laser point triangulation, supported by artificial intelligence. This makes the camera suitable for a wide range of applications – and delivers robust 3D information even in low ambient light. Picking the Unknown: Robust and Flexible Robotic Automation in Logistics

February 9, 2021 by Elaine

The global pandemic has radically impacted the supply chain and logistics industry, making the need for robotic automation more urgent than ever. With more than 70 percent of labor in warehousing being dedicated to picking and packing, numerous companies are gradually investing in logistics automation.

But what happens when the robots must handle an unlimited number of (unknown) stock keeping units? These companies need a fast, reliable, and robust way to automate picking and placing of a large variety of objects.

This challenge was taken up successfully by the Dutch company Fizyr. The computer vision company based in Delft focuses on enabling robots to pick unknown objects even in harsh logistics environments. [Read more…] about Picking the Unknown: Robust and Flexible Robotic Automation in Logistics

Ensenso 3D stereo camera system imitates human vision to make robotic inspection cells faster and more accurate

September 14, 2020 by Elaine

The new Ensenso 3D stereo industrial camera system “imitates human vision” to make robotic inspection cells “faster and more accurate”, according to Imaging Development Systems (IDS).

Each Ensenso camera system contains two 2D IDS cameras to view the scene from different positions, similar to the way human eyes work, with artificial intelligence processing the data, rather like the human brain does.

“Special matching algorithms compare the two images, search for corresponding points and visualize all point displacements in a disparity map,” explains IDS. “This is then used to calculate depth information for the resulting point cloud.” [Read more…] about Ensenso 3D stereo camera system imitates human vision to make robotic inspection cells faster and more accurate

IDS showcases its industrial cameras with AI built in

March 13, 2020 by David Edwards

Industrial camera specialist Imaging Development Systems is showcasing its machine vision technology, saying companies can keep their competitive edge with the systems because they use artificial intelligence.

IDS says the popularity of the solutions is growing along with the field of robot vision as well as novel AI-based vision applications.

“Ease of use” is becoming more and more important, which is why the recently launched AI system IDS NXT ocean was designed to train and execute neural networks on industrial cameras even by non-experts. [Read more…] about IDS showcases its industrial cameras with AI built in
