New battery promises to increase range of electric vehicles by five times

A company called Innolith says it is developing “the world’s first 1,000 Wh/kg rechargeable battery”. 

Under development in the company’s German laboratory, the new “Innolith Energy Battery” would be capable of powering an electric vehicle for “over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge”.

Volkswagen opens electric platform to third parties

The Volkswagen Group is opening its Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB) to other manufacturers.

It says the purpose is to achieve a significant reduction in the cost of e-mobility through the widest possible deployment of the MEB and the associated economies of scale, thus enabling broad access to individual mobility to continue in future.

The Volkswagen Group is currently projecting a first wave of some 15 million pure electric vehicles based on the MEB.

Alliance Ventures invests in Enevate to advance electric vehicle battery technology

Renault unveiled its autonomous electric car concept Trezor

Alliance Ventures, the strategic venture capital arm of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, has invested in the latest round of funding in Enevate Corporation, an advanced lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery technology company based in Irvine, California, USA.

Alliance Ventures was launched last year to support start-ups, early-stage development, and entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of next-generation systems for the automotive industry.

The investment reflects the capability of Enevate in breakthrough Li-ion batteries capable of extreme fast charging with high energy density.

Harting accelerates electric mobility offerings

The company will begin to showcase its offerings at high-profile trade shows.

BMW Group sales of electric hybrid vehicles up 38 percent in 2018

The BMW Group sold 142,617 electrified (battery-electric and plug-in hybrid) BMW and Mini vehicles in 2018, up +38.4%.

Europe is the Group’s biggest sales region for battery and plug-in hybrid vehicles, accounting for over 50% of sales in 2018.

With 75,000 electrified vehicles delivered to customers in Europe last year, the BMW Group is the market leader in the region, with over 16% market share.

AVL and Comau partner to deliver advanced solutions for the electric vehicles market

AVL List GmbH, a leader in engineering, simulation and testing technology for powertrain systems, and Comau SpA, a leading company in industrial automation products and systems, have joined forces to develop simulation, design, assembly and testing of powertrain systems and components.

As of January 1, 2018, AVL and Comau have an open cooperation in simulation, design, assembly and testing of powertrain components for electric as well as traditional vehicles.

The agreement will ensure customers have access to robust, standard solutions on a global scale, backed by a local presence, resulting in higher quality and a shorter time to market.

Hyundai unveils new electric vehicle charging and automated parking concept

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation has unveiled a new concept of electric vehicle wireless charging system with the Automated Valet Parking System (AVPS).

The system will offer a convenience to drivers who are faced with an overcrowding of both parking and charging locations as electric vehicle numbers grow steadily.

It relocates fully charged vehicles from charging stations and allow other awaiting electric vehicles to charge.

Global automotive study ‘outlines importance of car in changing world of mobility’

Arthur D. Little has released its worldwide automotive market report. Key findings are that the desire for car ownership remains strong, especially amongst the young, and that drivers are considering a dramatic switch to electric and hybrid vehicles.

This will impact manufacturer and supplier engine strategies and push for faster development of EV ecosystems, such as charging solutions, says ADL.

ZF invests €800 million in Saarbrücken plant in Germany

Over the next four years, ZF will invest €800 million in its Saarbrücken site in Germany, the lead location of ZF’s transmission technology, in production plants and systems, infrastructure, and its supplier network for the transition from conventional to electric car drives.

“The share of hybrid drives in production will increase tenfold over the next few years – from five to 50 percent,” said Wolf-Henning Scheider, CEO of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

ZF is investing more than €3 billion worldwide in new products and its production network for transmission technology.

Daimler spends €20 billion on battery cells

Daimler is taking the next step towards securing its CASE- connectivity, autonomous, shared & services and electric – corporate strategy.

The company is investing ten billion euros in the expansion of the Mercedes-Benz Cars electric fleet and another billion euros in the global battery production network within the worldwide production network.
