A surgical instrument developed by Corindus has been used in what is claimed to be the first remote-controlled heart operation using a robot.
Corindus published its “Telerobotic Intervention Study” in The Lancet, saying it is “the world’s first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures conducted from a remote location outside the catheterization lab using Corindus’ CorPath technology platform”.
The paper Corindus published, titled Long Distance Telerobotic-Assisted Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: First-in-Human Experience, discusses five successful patient cases performed by internationally acclaimed physician Dr Tejas Patel, chairman and chief interventional cardiologist of the Apex Heart Institute in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson says September 2019 marks “a major milestone in smart manufacturing capabilities”.
The reason for this is that the $50 million transformation of the company’s existing factory in Nanjing, China, has now reached its conclusion.

Airbus has partnered with a Chinese aviation company on the final stages of its aircraft assembly.
The new deal brings the value of the European aerospace giant’s co-operation agreements in China to approximately $1 billion.
Airbus says the measure reaffirms its commitment to its long-term strategic partnership with China’s aviation industry. The new agreement is with Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), and is designed to deepen industrial cooperation on Airbus single-aisle production. CMR Surgical, the maker of the “Versius” robotic surgery system, has raised $240 million in its latest funding round.
The company says the new money will enable it to fully fund the global commercialisation of the business.

A self-driving technology startup called Voyage Auto has raised $31 million in Series B funding.
The investment round was led by Franklin Templeton, with significant participation from Khosla Ventures, Jaguar Land Rover’s InMotion Ventures, and Chevron Technology Ventures.

Robotics Plus, a developer of robotics and automation technologies for the agriculture sector, has won a prestigious award in its home region of Australia-New Zealand.
The startup has won an ANZLF Trans-Tasman Innovation and Growth Award, from the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum.

An Indian company called GenRobotics has developed a range of robots to undertake work down manholes and in sewage environments, and has been receiving orders from a number of states in its home country as well as many places abroad.
GenRobotics was launched in relatively quiet circumstances in 2015, but then, last year, the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, was in attendance at the launch of the company’s second-generation robots.
Malaysia and the UAE are among the outside nations from which orders have been received for GenRobotics machines, and they join Indian states such as Tamil Nadu, in the south, and Haryana, in the north of the massive country of more than 1 billion people. Element Logic, a warehouse automation provider which has developed a robotic piece-picking system, is to deliver what is claimed to be “the world’s largest AutoStore installation within third-party logistics” for Prime Cargo.
E-logistics company Prime Cargo says investing in the huge robot warehouse from AutoStore will “ensure faster deliveries”.
