Kodiak Robotics demonstrates new safety technology for autonomous trucks

Kodiak Robotics, a self-driving trucking company, says it has become the first company to publicly demonstrate a “fallback” system, which can autonomously pull a self-driving truck over to the side of the road in the event of a truck or system failure. (See video below.)

The ability to perform a safe, reliable fallback, otherwise known as having the vehicle assume a minimal risk condition, is critical to safely deploying driverless trucks on public roads.

Clever claims ‘first’ autonomous unmanned vehicle delivery in Europe

Cleveron Mobility, a company developing the technology for driverless autonomous vehicles, and the parcel delivery company DPD Eesti, claim to have become the first in Europe to deliver a package to a customer with a driverless autonomous vehicle.

Cleveron says that, thanks to its flexible cargo capacity and the capability of driving on public roads, it’s able to offer a “good alternative to fossil fuel vans”.

The driverless autonomous vehicle, manufactured by Cleveron Mobility, is developed as a robotic courier with the aim to deliver goods and equipment in a more efficient, flexible and environmentally friendly way for both people and businesses. Universal Robots records best ever Q1 results

Universal Robots, the Danish producer of collaborative robots, has reported record Q1 revenue of $85 million, 30 percent up on its 2021 Q1 revenue.

The company’s chief financial officer, Kim Nørgaard Andreasen said: “Reporting record Q1 revenue at a time when businesses across the world are facing disruption from the pandemic, supply chain challenges and conflict is a testament to the role collaborative automation can play in helping our customers stay competitive.

Jack in the Box to pilot Miso’s robots in its burger joints

Miso Robotics has agreed a partnership with Jack in the Box to begin a piloted test that will install its Flippy 2 and Sippy core product lines in one of the national restaurant chain’s standalone locations, with possible plans for further integration in the months ahead.

Pony.ai becomes ‘first’ autonomous driving company to receive taxi license in China

Pony.ai, an autonomous driving technology company, claims it has become the “first and only autonomous driving company to obtain a taxi license in China”.

Pony.ai was awarded a permit to operate 100 autonomous vehicles as traditional taxis in Nansha, Guangzhou.

In May, Pony.ai will start charging fares in the entire 800 square kilometers of Nansha with 100 robotaxis and intends to gradually expand the scale and scope of service to other areas of Guangzhou to benefit more residents. Comau and IUVO design new wearable robots to support manual work

Comau and IUVO are developing an innovative wearable robotics solution to improve the ergonomics of operators engaged in manually moving loads at Esselunga, a leading large-scale retail trade company. The aim is to improve well-being by reducing lower back fatigue.

The action of the exoskeleton will assist the back muscles that are typically stimulated during lifting and handling tasks, thus creating short- and long-term benefits through a significant reduction in physical effort and fatigue.

There are three protagonists of the project. Comau’s role is to lead the engineering process related to the new exoskeletal device for lumbar support. Pitney Bowes and Ambi Robotics sign $23 million deal to optimize last-mile sorting across US hubs

Pitney Bowes, a global logistics company, and Ambi Robotics, a developer of robotic sorting systems for supply chain operations, have agreed a $23 million implementation expansion of AmbiSort systems in Pitney Bowes’ e-commerce hubs across the US.

The AI-powered robotics will help Pitney Bowes speed parcel sortation to last-mile delivery providers, while improving productivity, accuracy and worker safety as the company’s shipping and e-commerce businesses surpass 50 percent of total revenue.
