Techman Robot unveils humanoid prototype, aims for 2026 launch

August 27, 2025 by Mai Tao

Techman Robot, a maker of collaborative robotic arms and a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Quanta Computer, has unveiled its first humanoid robot prototype, the TM Xplore I, and plans to bring it to market in 2026.

The robot was introduced last week at the Taipei Automation Intelligence and Robot Show, where the company described it as a “next-generation humanoid platform” designed for industrial and service applications.

Unlike bipedal humanoids being developed by companies such as Tesla and Unitree, Techman’s robot uses a wheeled base for stability and efficiency in factory and warehouse environments. [Read more…] about Techman Robot unveils humanoid prototype, aims for 2026 launch

DHL’s 1,000-robot push signals a new phase in warehouse automation

August 13, 2025 by Mai Tao

DHL, the world’s largest logistics company, is making one of its biggest single bets yet on robotics, announcing plans to deploy more than 1,000 additional robots across its UK operations as part of a £550 million (€637 million) investment.

The move underscores a broader shift in global logistics toward flexible, AI-powered automation designed to work alongside people rather than replace them.

In a post on LinkedIn, Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group, framed the initiative as part of a wider transformation in how the company operates. [Read more…] about DHL’s 1,000-robot push signals a new phase in warehouse automation

Opinion: Edge AI is driving the next wave of robotic innovation

July 28, 2025 by David Edwards

By Paul Williamson, SVP and GM IoT line of business at Arm

The robotics revolution is accelerating. What began as rigid, programmed machines confined to factory floors, is evolving into more adaptive, intelligent systems now being piloted across a growing range of sectors.

The catalyst for this transformation isn’t just better hardware or more sophisticated software alone, but the convergence of multiple breakthrough technologies, with edge AI leading the charge. [Read more…] about Opinion: Edge AI is driving the next wave of robotic innovation

Beyond manufacturing: Cobots in healthcare, labs, and food service

July 25, 2025 by David Edwards

When you hear the word “robot”, you probably picture a massive, unmoving arm on an assembly line, precisely welding car parts or lifting heavy machinery. And for good reason – industrial robots have revolutionized manufacturing for decades.

But a new breed of robotic assistants, collaborative robots or cobots, are breaking free from the factory floor, proving their versatility and value in an array of surprising environments.

Designed to work safely alongside humans, cobots are now making significant inroads into fields like healthcare, laboratory research, and even food service, transforming how we approach tasks in these diverse sectors. MIT engineers design new handheld interface that gives ‘anyone the ability to train a robot’

July 18, 2025 by David Edwards

Teaching a robot new skills used to require coding expertise. But a new generation of robots could potentially learn from just about anyone.

Engineers are designing robotic helpers that can “learn from demonstration”. This more natural training strategy enables a person to lead a robot through a task, typically in one of three ways: via remote control, such as operating a joystick to remotely maneuver a robot; by physically moving the robot through the motions; or by performing the task themselves while the robot watches and mimics.

Learning-by-doing robots usually train in just one of these three demonstration approaches. But MIT engineers have now developed a three-in-one training interface that allows a robot to learn a task through any of the three training methods. The evolving role of the human worker alongside cobots: Upskilling and new job creation

July 18, 2025 by David Edwards

In the early days of industrial automation, the arrival of machines on the factory floor was often seen as a threat to human employment.

Entire roles were mechanized, displacing workers and forcing industries to re-evaluate the relationship between people and machines.

Today, as collaborative robots – or “cobots” – become more common in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond, the conversation is shifting.

Rather than replacing humans, cobots are increasingly seen as tools that augment human capabilities, reshaping the modern workforce through upskilling and creating entirely new job categories in the process.
