Lenovo opens first European manufacturing facility in Hungary

Computer giant Lenovo has officially opened the doors to its first in-house manufacturing facility in Europe.

Based in Ullo, Hungary, the factory focuses primarily on building server infrastructure, storage systems and high-end PC workstations used by customers throughout the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.

Extending Lenovo’s international manufacturing operations, the investment represents significant economic potential for both the private and public sectors in Hungary, with increased production capacity, greater potential for collaboration with local vendors, and the creation of new job openings. Spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment expected to reach record $107 billion in 2022

Global fab equipment spending for front-end facilities is expected to jump 18 percent year-over-year to an all-time high of $107 billion in 2022, marking a third consecutive year of growth following a 42 percent surge in 2021, according to a report by industry association SEMI.

Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, says: “Crossing the $100 billion mark in spending on global fab equipment for the first time is a historic ​milestone for the semiconductor industry.

Berkshire Grey launches new robotic system for autonomous e-commerce autobagging

Berkshire Grey, a developer of in AI-enabled robotic solutions that automate supply chain processes, has introduced its new Robotic Pick and Pack with Identification (BG RPPi) system, which now includes advanced auto-identification and item manipulation technology, for touchless eCommerce autobagging.

Using Berkshire Grey’s advanced AI-enabled robotic technology, this system combines automated picking with intelligent placement for packing eCommerce items directly into autobagging equipment, thereby increasing throughput capacity without adding additional labor.

Alstom wins €156 million contract for driverless metro trains in Italy

Alstom, a large transportation vehicles manufacturer, has won a €156 million contract from the Italian city of Turin to supply its latest generation of fully driverless metro trains.

Turin’s transportation infrastructure agency, Infra.To, actually placed the order. Infra.To is owned by the city of Turin and is one of Europe’s largest public companies.

The contract is for the supply of Alstom’s latest generation of fully driverless train-to-train CBTC system for line 1 of Turin Metro along with four new Metropolis trains. Berkshire Grey introduces new robotic product sortation for warehouses

Berkshire Grey, a provider of robotic solutions that automate supply chain processes, has introduced its next generation Robotic Product Sortation (BG RPS) solution for order fulfillment.

This high-capacity automation solution robotically picks, sorts, and packs individual items into outbound order containers without the need for operator interaction.

Berkshire Grey launches ‘Robotic Shuttle Put Wall’

Berkshire Grey, a provider of robotics and automation systems for supply chain processes, has launched its AI-powered Robotic Shuttle Put Wall (RSPW) solution for e-commerce order fulfillment.

The RSPW is an automated put wall that increases capacity and throughput with robotic automation, which the company says is “more important than ever”, given today’s heightened customer expectations for fast and efficient fulfillment and the parallel industry pressure of labor scarcity.

Estée Lauder invests in robotics from Inther Group

Inther Group, international system integrator headquartered in Venray, the Netherlands, has signed an agreement with cosmetics giant Estée Lauder to implement the Gantry Robotic Intelligent Piece Picker (GRIPP).

This fully automated, compact, gantry robot picking technology developed by Inther has now made its first entry into the intralogistics market place.

Innodisk releases industrial-grade solid-state disks with ‘world’s highest capacity’

Innodisk, a provider of industrial flash and memory solutions, has released its industrial-grade 112-Layer 3D TLC SSDs along with “the world’s highest capacity up to 8TB”.

The 112-layer SSDs introduces a complete product line including the SATA 3TG6-P and 3TE7 series, as well as the PCIe Gen3x4 and Gen4x4 series.
