Jacobs, Peachtree Corners, and Qualcomm partner to develop cellular vehicle-to-everything technology in Georgia Smart City

Jacobs, Peachtree Corners and Qualcomm Technologies have agreed a partnership to implement end-to-end smart solutions in one of the nation’s first smart city environments powered by real-world connected vehicle technology and infrastructure.

As a part of the working relationship, Qualcomm Technologies serves as ecosystem enabler by providing technology solutions, while Jacobs manages the installation commission project delivery.

The program aims to demonstrate the continued momentum of smart cities and spaces, with Peachtree Corners serving as a model for other municipalities as they look to deploy smart solutions and programs. Swisslog opens new location in Dortmund

After 30 years in Dortmund’s Technology Park, Swiss intralogistics specialist Swisslog is now moving into a new building in the Dorstfeld district of the city.

The company says the move is a sign of expansion and future orientation as well as a commitment to the Ruhr metropolis and Germany as a business location.

New Suzuki factory in India starts operation

Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor for the production of automobiles in India, has completed construction of the Plant C, and started production from April 2021.

Suzuki established SMG in March 2014, aiming to secure production ability in preparation for the automobile market growth in India, as well as for expansion of exports from India.

GM and LG invest $2.3 billion in second battery manufacturing plant in US

Ultium Cells, a joint venture of LG Energy Solution and General Motors, is planning to make a “more than $2.3 billion investment” to build its second battery cell manufacturing plant in the United States. The facility will be located in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Ultium Cells will build the new plant on land leased from GM. The new battery cell plant will create 1,300 new jobs. Construction on the approximately 2.8 million-square-foot facility will begin immediately, and the plant is scheduled to open in late 2023. Once operational, the facility will supply battery cells to GM’s Spring Hill assembly plant.

Taurob and Equinor to introduce autonomous robots on Norway’s offshore platforms

Norwegian petroleum refining company Equinor is introducing autonomous ATEX-certified robots on their oil and gas installations.

ATEX is the European certification given to equipment tested and approved to be “intrinsically safe”.

Partner in the project is inspection robotics specialist Taurob of Austria. Its robot will be used to conduct routine inspection and maintenance tasks on offshore installations.

Nidec to open new factories and launch business in Serbia

Nidec is to open new factories in the city of Novi Sad in Serbia, and held an event today to mark the beginning of the project. 

At today’s event, held at the office of president, Serbia, and attended by President Aleksandar Vučić, Mayor Miloš Vučević of Novi Sad, and Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Takahiko Katsumata, among others, the company announced its plan to launch business in Serbia.

Mitsubishi Electric makes dedicated factory for industrial mechatronics

Mitsubishi Electric says it will establish the Industrial Mechatronics Systems Works as of April 1, 2021 within the premises of the company’s Nagoya Works in Nagoya, Japan.

The functions which currently lay under Nagoya Works for development and manufacturing of computerized numerical controllers, electrical discharge machines and laser processing machines will be transferred to the new Works, improving flexibility and speed in responding to customer needs.

The Industrial Mechatronics Systems Works will become Mitsubishi Electric’s dedicated factory for industrial mechatronic products, which contribute to the manufacturing industry through automation of product and parts processing.
