Universal Robots ‘future-proofs’ production processes at Vietnamese manufacturer with collaborative robots

October 15, 2019 by Mai Tao

Universal Robots has helped Vietnam-based Vinacomin Motor Industry Joint Stock Company “future-proof” its production processes with collaborative robots.

VMIC is a subsidiary of the Vinacomin Group, a state-owned coal and mining giant.

VMIC, one of the first state-owned manufacturers to deploy cobots, has seen productivity increase two to three times, with improved product quality, leading to a 50 to 60 percent rise in orders. Arsenal launches three new robotic dispensing systems on the Universal Robot platform

October 11, 2019 by Sam Francis

New cartridge based robotic dispensing systems for low and medium volume manufacturing processes

Arsenal, an Austin, Texas based developer of robotic dispensing systems and turnkey integration solutions, has recently released three new cartridge-based dispensing systems.

Arsenal’s dispensing systems leverage the flexible and easy to use Universal Robot platform which makes them ideal for low and medium volume manufacturing processes.

Cartridge-based robotic dispensing solutions bridge the gap between time consuming, unpredictable manual dispensing and high volume pumping systems. [Read more…] about Arsenal launches three new robotic dispensing systems on the Universal Robot platform

International Space Station creating new biological life forms

September 4, 2019 by Sam Francis

The International Space Station is creating new biological life forms using “cutting-edge 3D biomanufacturing”.

3D printing – also known as additive manufacturing – is a well-known method of making things here on Earth, and on the ISS, but this method uses materials such as plastics and metals.

However, 3D biomanufacturing uses biological materials such as new tissue or blood vessels. (See video below.) [Read more…] about International Space Station creating new biological life forms

Laser interferometer verifies Trumpf Trumatic faster and more accurately

August 28, 2019 by David Edwards

When Trumpf saw API’s XD Laser at a trade show, they immediately recognized that it could measure the three degrees of freedom needed for production of their TruMatic 7000 punch laser machine in only a single measurement process.

A subsequent demo at Trumpf’s factory in Ditzingen, Germany, however, revealed more benefits than Trumpf was anticipating. [Read more…] about Laser interferometer verifies Trumpf Trumatic faster and more accurately

Scurrying cockroaches help researchers steady staggering robots

August 23, 2019 by David Edwards

Ew, a cockroach! But it zips off before the swatter appears. Now, researchers have leveraged the bug’s superb scurrying skills to create a cleverly simple method to assess and improve locomotion in robots.

Normally, tedious modeling of mechanics, electronics, and information science is required to understand how insects’ or robots’ moving parts coordinate smoothly to take them places.

But in a new study, biomechanics researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology boiled down the sprints of cockroaches to handy principles and equations they then used to make a test robot amble about better. [Read more…] about Scurrying cockroaches help researchers steady staggering robots
