Top 10 most memorable films and TV shows with robots in them

May 16, 2018 by David Edwards

terminator image small

You probably know the winner without looking – I’ve chosen The Terminator, the 1984 movie when Arnold Schwarzenegger was in his prime and when films still required good stories and plot twists and could not rely entirely on special effects to wow audiences.

There are probably others on the list you can guess, but that is the nature of such collections – most of us can agree on them.

There are probably no surprises, but then surprises are probably overrated, especially in a world where the word “surprise” is often deliberately or unwittingly substituted for “trauma” or “shock” and expected to be laughed off by people who may or may not know the difference.  [Read more…] about Top 10 most memorable films and TV shows with robots in them

How artificial intelligence will impact the future of the business industry

May 15, 2018 by Mai Tao

artificial intelligence image

Artificial intelligence is taking over many areas of life, and it’s not exactly surprising why. Having the capability to process massive amounts of data holds considerable potential for a lot of parties.

Entire governments are funnelling billions into developing powerful AI, which can give them an edge over other nations. Not to mention the tech giants that are also doing the same thing for the same reasons.

The fact of the matter is that AI is now synonymous with power, both for countries and businesses. Those who can take advantage of it have the opportunity to stay ahead of their competitors and thrive in the coming decades if they start travel procedures now. Doing so, however, requires keeping a few aspects of AI in mind.  [Read more…] about How artificial intelligence will impact the future of the business industry

hms Anybus .NET Bridge small

HMS Industrial Networks has introduced a new range of Anybus .Net Bridges for ProfiBus, ProfiNet, EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP.

Bridging the gap between operational technology and IT, the .Net bridge family enables data from industrial machinery to be presented to .Net-based IT applications.

The result is that .Net programmers can build a PC program which exchanges live data with a PLC system — for statistics, analysis or maintenance.  [Read more…] about HMS Industrial introduces range of Anybus .Net Bridges

MarketNewsUpdates.com news commentary

The robots are coming, whether we are ready or not and the trend is clear: robots will increasingly integrate into our society – at work, at home, in warehouses, hospitals and retail stores, on city streets, industrial parks and the footpaths of college campuses.

As these increasingly versatile machines start to roll out or walk out of the laboratories, the global robotics and automation market is forecasted to grow from $64 billion to $1.2 trillion in the next 10 years.  [Read more…] about The rise of the robot: Investing in disruptive automation

The Questor Tapes: Novocaine for the android’s soul

May 8, 2018 by David Edwards

The-Questor-Tapes-1974-1

Watching old films probably has the same effect as taking novocaine or whatever it is that dentists give you these days as a local anaesthetic before they inflict the worst pain imaginable right inside your gaping piehole.

The discomfort of modern life – and perhaps this only applies to older people – is somewhat anaesthetised by the eye-candy that is old film formats.

Or should that be “true” film formats, as in actual film rather than the zeros and ones on electrical circuitry somewhere inside today’s digital cameras?  [Read more…] about The Questor Tapes: Novocaine for the android’s soul

Opinion: China and US share similar enterprise culture

china enterprise

By Edward Tse, Gao Feng Advisory

The looming trade war between the US and China is front-page news around the world.

On the surface, it looks like US President Donald Trump following up on his campaign rhetoric of “America first” and part of his strategy to treat China as a “strategic competitor”.

However, it’s possible to trace the roots of the current impasse to a fundamental mistrust between the West, in particular, the US, and China.  [Read more…] about Opinion: China and US share similar enterprise culture
